Don:

"Waiting for the dust to settle" is a never-ending process of waiting.

A better question - for any software - is: What is the benefit to me in using this software to get my work done?

FCP X is being used - today - around the world for a wide variety of projects; from simple video editing to broadcast. I get emails daily from people who really like it and I get emails every day from people who don't. Both feel very passionate about their like or dislike. The only person who can decide if FCP X is right for you is you.

FCP X is a tool that enables video editing. I find it very useful for some of my projects and am happy to use it.

Larry / I have not purchased the FCPX yet. Should I wait a while as the "dust" settles on this controversial program?

Also, it is incorrect that "Apple allows three downloads of files in the App store without repurchasing." There is no limit to the number of times an app may be downloaded (nor even to the number of computers you install it on, if you "own and control" all of them).

See the Mac App Store FAQ and Terms & Conditions for more.

In terms of the image, publishing thru FCP X or Compressor should be the same.

However, Compressor allows you to modify the final version - watermarks, burned in timecode - using filters that aren't easily available through FCP X.

Hi Larry great article.
What is the difference in the published video as seen on YouTube if you use FCPX to publish directly or Compressor 4?

Thanks

Just for the record: There was a co-existence issue with FxFactory plugins (and FxFactory only...) that was fixed with the release of Tonalizer 1.1 back in January.

Don:

I agree. Copying all elements into the Event folder saves a lot of grief.

If you are optimizing media, which makes a copy of your source media, you don't need to copy the original media into the Event folder. However, if you are NOT optimizing media then I would recommend copying the original media to your Event folder.

Yes, this requires more storage, but then you don't need to worry about lost assets.
